Final From Aspen

Sadly our wonderful time in Aspen is drawing to a close.  We will leave tomorrow morning and spend the night in Green River, CO.  Wednesday morning we will drive to Vegas and spend the night at Caesars Palace.  Bruce and Jill will join us in Vegas and we plan to have dinner at Joe’s Steak and Crab House and enjoy some delicious King Crab Legs.  But, until then, here’s what we’ve been up to thus far.

As we walked back from the finishing line of the Duck Race, we came across some kids on skateboards and scooters performing at one of this arenas.  I’ll attach a couple of photos.

The first part of Saturday evening was ‘dinner in the condo’.  Jill picked up some lovely salmon at the market and superbly bbq it.  After a wonderful meal, we all walked into town and to the Art Museum where they perform Jazz at what they call the “Jas Cafe”.  The evening opened with a big band number by the ‘H2 Big Band’.  Then, the main attraction was introduced, one Allan Harris, a jazz vocalist.  He did a few numbers and then introduced Carolyn Leohart, another jazz vocalist and they did some duets.  Then she did solo for awhile and then he came back, donned a cowboy hat and proceeded to do some western numbers.  It was a fun evening.

Sunday was a quiet day around the condo, mainly watching the PGA Championship and doing some homework on our upcoming trip in late September to Australia and New Zealand.  Booked some restaurants, a trip on the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns and a Scenic Railway trip to Kuranda, returning via the Skyway Cable-car.  As dinner time approached, we all climbed into Bruce and Jill’s car and headed up Pine Creek Valley to the Pine Creek Cookhouse.

It is in the middle of no where, yet gets a good dinner crowd every night.  We had a great meal and I managed to take a few ‘happy snaps’ while there.  In the winter time, they plow the road almost to the restaurant, then the restaurant picks you up in a horse and sleigh takes you to the front door.  I would imagine that Aspen is totally different in the winter.

Monday morning we set off for our last game of golf in Aspen for awhile.  Next summer it is England, Spain and a Mediterranean cruise and in 2020 is Jordan, Egypt and Israel, so Aspen won’t be on the horizon for some time.  It was a strange day as we started playing in bright sunshine, then we were met with overcast which was followed by a short two hole rain shower.  We finished the last three holes in bright sunshine again.  Unfortunately, the game was like the weather, all over the place.  We managed to stay in double digits, though narrowly.

We’ve just returned from Acquolina, a lovely Italian restaurant in the heart of Aspen.  A wonderful final meal in the Colorado Rockies with photos of Sofia Loren, Marcel Mastrioanni and Anita Ekberg.. The photos was great and so were the photos.

Off to bed.
