Aspen 4

Aspen – Part 4

The last time I left you it was Monday and we just had lunch at the Woody Creek Tavern. That evening Bruce put a wonderfully marinated flank steak on the BBQ and along with a delicious salad we had a great meal. No photos of the meal but a few shots of the condo.

Tuesday, the four of us headed for the links. Just a couple of miles out of town is the Aspen Golf Club, a beautiful public course. It was one of the few times that Annie and I played at an altitude of eight thousand feet. The Epic Driver managed a little more distance with the thin air. Next week when we return to The Springs, we will both literally and figuratively be brought back to earth with regard to our drives. Interesting thing about the daily Aspen weather reports is that they are pretty much the same every day. The mornings are usually very nice, but in mid-afternoon there are usually thunderstorms. We also played on Thursday and got rained on both times.

On Wednesday we packed a lunch and headed for the Gondola that would take us to the top of Ajax Mountain. Once again, thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon and they did arrive, along with some lightning. The lightning can be a problem for the Gondola so just when we reached to top we were informed that they were shutting everything down. With the rain starting, we took our picnic lunch into the “Sundeck” and grabbed a table next to the window and watched the rain. An hour or so later the rain let up and we all went for a walk, however, at eleven thousand feet I got a little winded in the thin air and decided to sit on a picnic bench and let the youngsters do the hike.
